چکیده

Pervasive computing systems are highly complex due not only to vast heterogeneity but also to mobile, ad hoc interactions. As a result, it is very costly to provide post-purchase customer support for home pervasive computing. We have investigated current approaches that might provide technologies for solutions: faulttolerant/reliable computing, self-healing/autonomic computing, and tools for testing, fault diagnosis and isolation. We believe that fault-tolerant/reliable computing and self-healing/autonomic computing at their current stages are far too costly and complex to be adapted in consumer electronic systems, and developing testing and diagnostic tools for pervasive computing systems may be necessary. Although building a general, comprehensive testing and diagnostic tool is difficult if not impossible, tools that focus on specific areas may be a good way to start. To enable tool development for pervasive-computing test and diagnosis, fault models, testing and diagnostic methods/algorithms need to be developed, and standardization efforts may be necessary for testing and fault isolation especially for cross-vendor systems.

A context-sensitive dynamic role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments

Resources and services are accessible in pervasive computing environments from anywhere and at any time. Also, due to ever-changing nature of such environments, the identity of users is unknown. However, users must be able to access the required resources based on their contexts. These and other similar complexities necessitate dynamic and context-aware access control models for such environmen...

A semantic-aware role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments

Access control in open and dynamic Pervasive Computing Environments (PCEs) is a very complex mechanism and encompasses various new requirements. In fact, in such environments, context information should be used in access control decision process; however, it is not applicable to gather all context information completely and accurately all the time. Thus, a suitable access control model for PCEs...

Modeling Service Composition Reliability in Pervasive Computing

In pervasive computing, new functionality is often realized by recombining existing functionality in the form of service compositions. As pervasive environments inhabit ever greater parts of our lifes, it becomes important to which degree we can justifiably trust service compositions. In this report, we address an important component of trust, namely reliability of service compositions. In part...

Mobile Ad Hoc Networking: An Essential Technology for Pervasive Computing

In the near future, a pervasive computing environment can be expected based on the recent progresses and advances in computing and communication technologies. Next generation of mobile communications will include both prestigious infrastructured wireless networks and novel infrastructureless mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). A MANET is a collection of wireless nodes that can dynamically form a n...
